Seaview Ridge encompasses estate wines grown by Simon Jones and Charles O’Brien across 1.6ha of vineyards in Baw Baw Shire, West Gippsland Victoria.

The vineyard sites are nestled between the Victorian Alps to the north and Bass Straight to the south, making it one of the coolest and most exposed areas to grow grapes in Australia. A burgeoning sense of energy and character manifests in a meticulous attention to detail across the vineyards and wines. The jewel in the crown and the namesake of the label is Simon and his wife Olivia’s home vineyard perched at the top of the Strzlecki Ranges in Seaview. Comprising 0.5ha of high density Chardonnay, the last 4 years have been spent painstakingly rejuvenating the vineyard to produce a singular wine from this site; an ongoing process in pursuit of excellence. This is nothing short of a labour of passion.

The estate was established in 2020 following numerous inspring visits to friends such as William Downie, James and Jess Audas of ARC Wines, and Patrick Sullivan, they were drawn to the region and amazed by the intensity, perfume and prettiness of the wines owing to the iron-rich red volcanic soils.

Having already honed their winemaking craft for a number of years under their Château Acid label with negociant fruit from a warmer climate, Simon and Charles were afforded an opportunity to lease some vines at the highly regarded Bull Swamp vineyard in Warragul in 2020. This was the moment to start making more classic wines, owning the process from pruning to bottling and executing every step to the highest standard possible in the vigneron tradition.

Since then, along with their parcel of Chardonnay, they have been working with Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. All farming adheres strictly to organic principles - without tilling and with copper, sulfur and beneficial sprays only. Their approach in the cellar is also one of minimal intervention; they employ a lighter touch to create fine wines that invoke an impression of vibrancy, place and belonging. This outlier region that pushes boundaries and puts the capabilities of vignerons to the test has captured the imagination of these young producers. In turn, they strive to push their own boundaries and deliver brilliance.
